Sweet dreams are made of this

Suppose you just graduated and are looking for a job. In that case, chances are you will be dreaming of landing a job at one large company to have all those perks at the office (remember that viral ex-Twitter employee video?), many benefits and free travel.

Well, let me tell you, the reality is going to be a little different from that. You will spend your time in seemingly endless and pointless meetings, will have to work overtime and weekends, sometimes without pay, will hate the daily commute (even when not the whole week), and those travels will create many other problems for you.

While companies will tell you that any job is an opportunity to develop yourself to your full potential, they are often just trying to profit off you, sweetening the pill a little bit to make you wish to work for them.

Making you believe it is not about money but how you will improve yourself and develop new skills is part of the game. And it is nothing wrong with that.

Having spent over 40 years in the corporate world, I can attest that “companies” don’t have a heart and don’t care about anybody.

Sure I bagged some money, but what else did I personally gain? A few ‘friends” that will forget my entire existence faster than you can say “supercalifragilisticexpialidocius”?
